I also thank Professor Barry Brook for his survey of the latest scientific assessments and forecasts on the impact of climate change on our planet. They are indeed alarming. The fact of climate change, and the rate of change, has become all too clear, even if there are still sceptics that wish to debate the causes. Our title reference to “Catastrophic Impacts” seems fully justified. -

“The ageing revolution is not over” - Last time I spoke here I called my address “the longevity revolution”, and asked, “crisis or opportunity?”. I intended that question as a challenge but it seems my challenge has not been met. We are as a community, still floundering on the crisis side of the binary. Our approach is still steeped in the language of “burden” and “deficits”. We are still failing to realise the opportunities that longevity can create for us. -

Family Law Legislation Amendment (Family Violence and Other Measures) Bill
Recommendation 1: That item 13 of the Bill be amended by inserting a second note after new s 60B(4) that reads ‘the Act be interpreted consistently with Australia’s obligations under the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, wherever relevant’.
