The meeting was chaired by Dr Jocelynne A. Scutt, Commissioner, together with Ms Santi Mariso, Community Education and Liaison Officer and Mrs Pia Struwe, Investigation and Conciliation Officer with the Anti-Discrimination Commission, and with Mr Stuart Beswick of Multicultural Tasmania. It was attended by some 24 invited participants, two of whom were children (10/13). The Commissioner gave a short introduction. Then everyone introduced her/himself and said a few words about where they had come from and their interests. -

Or when I enter the store, some people look at me like a stranger and make me feel uncomfortable, and some even say ‘terrorist’.” -

Isma listen: Eliminating prejudice against Arab and Muslim Australians
The meeting was chaired by Mr Abdul Majid Zahra, Manager of Tripoli and Mena Association (TMA), and facilitated by Omeima Sukkarieh (notes) from HREOC. Also note-taking was Administrative Officer of TMA, Zeinab Rizk. The TMA Arabic Aged Worker Sam El Sayed also attended. 79 Arabic-speaking seniors attended, including both Muslims (the majority) and Christians. The consultation was conducted in Arabic. -

consultations on eliminating prejudice against Arab and Muslim AustraliasThe meeting was convened by Omeima Sukkarieh, Community Liaison Officer, and Susanna Iuliano, Policy Research Officer, from HREOC. It was attended by 12 participants from the local Iraqi community, including the local Imam. Participants were Iraqi refugee men, the majority on Temporary Protection Visas. As the community is small, consultation participants requested that the name of their town not be referred to in this notes. -

These notes summarise three separate consultations attended by a total of 41 high school students in Years 7 -11 from three government schools in the Parramatta, Granville and Bondi school districts in the Sydney metropolitan area. Most students invited to take part in the consultations were of Muslim or Arabic-speaking background. Students were required to obtain permission from their parents in order to participate. The meetings were organised with the assistance of the NSW Department of Education and Training and participating schools.
