It's great to be here today. I can't think of a better time to be taking stock of developments in human rights law and policy in Australia, or a better place to be doing this than Victoria. As a Sydney-sider I have to admit I haven't always been fully appreciative of the number plates down here, which proclaim: ‘Victoria: The Place to Be!’ But there's no doubt that Victoria is the place to be right now, when it comes to human rights developments. -

It is a great pleasure to deliver a Blackfriars Lecture. A few weeks ago I gave a speech to the Sydney Institute outlining the approach I plan to take to human rights as the Federal Commissioner titled ‘The Forgotten Freedoms’. In this speech I outlined that I have concerns about the key freedoms of expression, worship, association and property rights. Reasserting them will be the focus of my tenure as Human Rights Commissioner. -

Part 2: Sexual harassment from the perspective of bystanders
How do individuals who witness or are aware of sexual harassment in their workplace make sense of this? Referred to in some studies as ambient sexual harassment, the vicarious experience of sexual harassment by bystanders has been explored from a number of perspectives. This section describes the prevalence of the experience, the psychological and productivity impacts and perceptual differences across demographic groups. -
