As an ex-judge being invited to speak to students of the law, I assumed that I was expected to speak on something related to the administration of the law from a judge's perspective. And as President of Australia's Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC), I assumed I was expected to mention the role of human rights promotion in our legal system. -

Indigenous Deaths in Custody: Chapter 8 Custodial Conditions
8.1 The profiles indicate a growing awareness by custodial and medical staff of issues concerning the proper treatment of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous prisoners. However, implementation of the recommendations is uneven. Some recommendations have not been implemented in any jurisdiction. -

Paula McDonald is an Associate Professor in the School of Management at the Queensland University of Technology. Her research addresses a number of areas relevant to social justice issues at work, including sexual harassment and other forms of gender-based discrimination, the early work experiences of young people and work-life boundaries. Paula has published several studies in the area of workplace sexual harassment. -
