In 1863 the area now known as the Northern Territory came under the control of South Australia. By 1903 the whole area was leased to non-Indigenous people. As there were few non-Indigenous women, relationships between the Indigenous women and non-Indigenous men were relatively common. The consequence was a growing population of children of mixed descent who were usually cared for by their mothers within the Aboriginal community. -

I also thank Professor Barry Brook for his survey of the latest scientific assessments and forecasts on the impact of climate change on our planet. They are indeed alarming. The fact of climate change, and the rate of change, has become all too clear, even if there are still sceptics that wish to debate the causes. Our title reference to “Catastrophic Impacts” seems fully justified. -

1. I have been awarded a Bachelor of Science from Aberdeen University, and a Masters of Agricultural Science, Doctorate of Philosophy and Diploma of Education from the University of Adelaide. I received my TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) qualification at the Adelaide TAFE Institute. 2. I have taught agriculture at the Roseworthy Campus of the University of Adelaide from 1974 to 1994. I have also taught for two years at secondary school level and lectured part-time for a year at the Adelaide TAFE Institute. -

Chapter 4: Human rights in practice – alcohol policy
<h2><strong>4.1 Introduction</strong></h2> <p>Alcohol consumption, misuse and related harm are some of the most challenging issues confronting communities across the length and breadth of Australia. These challenges are not limited to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, but confront every demographic in Australian cities and towns. From Kings Cross to Halls Creek, St Kilda to Santa Teresa – communities grapple with alcohol related harm arising from over-consumption and the extent to which punitive or restrictive measures should or should not be applied.</p> -
