A century ago, the Australian people engaged in a debate about creating a nation. They held meetings...They wrote articles and letters in newspapers. Many views were canvassed and voices were heard. The separate colonies, having divided up the land between them, discussed ways of sharing powers in order to achieve a vision of a united Australia. The result was the Australian Constitution, establishing the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. -

<p>I start by acknowledging the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.</p> <p>To all of you here today at the OWN conference, happy International Women’s Day for 2016.</p> <p>It has always been my approach to International Women's Day to mark the things we as women have to celebrate.</p> <p>As older women in Australia at this time, we do have lot, and many of those causes for celebration are things that women in this room have worked on over many decades to achieve.</p> -

Bringing them Home - Penny & Murray story
In 1958, whilst our family [Penny aged 10, her brother Trevor 11, Murray 7, sister Judy 6 and baby Olive was five or six weeks old, their mother and step-father] were all resident at a house situated in Cairns, my mother's capacity to look after her children in a fit and proper manner became the subject of challenge within the Cairns District Children's Court. This action was initiated by Sgt Syd Wellings, then attached to the nearby Edmonton Police Station. -

<p>Thank you Madam Chair for the opportunity to be part of this Interactive Panel on the implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples at this, the Sixth Session on the Expert Panel on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.</p> <p>I believe Interactive Panels provide an opportunity for Mechanisms such as the Permanent Forum and EMRIP to role model to other parts of the United Nations family the best practice for engagement with, and participation of, Indigenous peoples in matters that affect us.</p> -

It is relevant to be talking about culture in relation to education as culture and literacy go hand in hand; one augments the other.
