The complainant, who was originally from Serbia, was employed as a van driver for an Australian Government statutory authority. The complainant alleged that his supervisor made offensive comments about Serbians to him and to others while he was present. For example, the supervisor is alleged to have made comments such as "He is a Serb and Serbs make ethnic cleansing, He might kill you". The complainant claimed that the company was slow to investigate his internal complaint and that he was victimised for lodging the complaint. -

If you know or see someone being bullied go to the Supportive Bystander FactSheet to find out how to help them. Cyberbullying is bullying that is done through the use of technology. For example, using the Internet, a mobile phone or a camera to hurt or embarrass someone is considered cyberbullying. It can be shared widely with a lot of people quickly, which is why it is so dangerous and hurtful. -

The report is provided in accordance with section 46C(1)(a) of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Act 1986. This provides that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner is to submit a report regarding the enjoyment and exercise of human rights by Aboriginal persons and Torres Strait Islanders, and including recommendations as to the action that should be taken to ensure the exercise and enjoyment of human rights by those persons.
