DIMA: temporary exemption
By this instrument the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission grants to the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (“DIMA”) its contractors and agents, a temporary exemption ("the exemption") pursuant to section 44(1) of the Sex Discrimination Act (Cth) 1984 ("the Act"), in relation to the operation of sections 22, 23 and 26 of the Act. -

The Mercy Refugee Service is part of the relief and development cross-cultural work of the Institute of Sisters of Mercy Australia. Mercy Refugee Service is entrusted to serve without discrimination the uprooted and displaced people in our world. It was established in 1983 to respond to the plight of refugees in south-east Asia. At that time volunteers were called on to provide health care, education, social welfare and counselling support to refugees in camps in Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, the Philippines and in Cambodia. -

9. Mental Health of Children in Immigration Detention
This chapter addresses the impact of the detention environment on the mental health of children and the measures taken to address their mental health needs. Consistent with the breadth of protection given to the welfare of children under the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the Inquiry uses the term mental health to describe the psychological well-being of children as well as diagnosed psychiatric illness. -
