Stella Young is a vivacious journalist, with a love of dinosaurs and Melbourne night life. She edits the ABC's Disability Portal Ramp Up. She uses a wheelchair. Her disability means that she often breaks bones, and her parents took her to hospital when she broke her leg whilst on a family holiday. Stella was about four years old. The doctor - whilst repairing the break - said to her parents "well, while she's under anaesthetic we may as well perform the hysterectomy." Luckily for Stella, her parents refused. -

MENTAL HEALTH FOR ALL: WHAT'S THE VISION?
Over the last four years the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (the Commission) has played a key role in raising community awareness about the human rights Australians with a mental illness. The Commission, through its public inquiry process, brought into national focus how, amongst other things, people affected by mental illness frequently faced discrimination and stigmatisation based on ignorance, fear and inaccurate stereotypes. -

There have been two cycles completed since its implementation on 1 July 1999. The scheme provides regular and formal assessment of an employee’s work performance and allows for access to training and skill development. -

<h3>Anne Hollonds</h3> <h4>National Children's Commissioner: 2020 -</h4> <p>Anne Hollonds commenced as National Children’s Commissioner in November 2020.</p> <p>Before her appointment to the role, Anne was the Director of the Australian Institute of Family Studies, an independent statutory authority of the Australian Government responsible for conducting research and providing advice on child and family wellbeing. In this role she was also Director of the Australian Gambling Research Centre.</p> -

Although the first Human Rights Commission was established by federal legislation in 1981, ICESCR was not added to its mandate (unlike the ICCPR). The omission was repeated when the new (current) Commission was established in 1986. -

HREOC Website: Isma - Listen: National consultations on eliminating prejudice against Arab and Muslim Australias
These notes summarise three separate consultations attended by 31 primary school students in Years 5 and 6 from three government primary schools in the Fairfield, Port Jackson and Bondi school districts in the Sydney metropolitan area. The meetings were organised with the assistance of the NSW Department of Education and Training and participating schools. Most students who took part in the consultations were either Muslim or from an Arabic-speaking background. Students were required to obtain permission from their parents in order to take part in the meetings. -
