The Australian Human Rights Commission presented the third of its seminar series celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), entitled Complementary protection: meeting Australia’s obligations to people fleeing danger.

This community cultural development project has brought together an ethnically-diverse group of young Muslim women to develop creative expression and skills in all aspects of digital animation to produce a short animation film.

We, the Social Justice group at St John's Regional in Dandenong, Victoria, have discussed issues relating to children in detention centres in Australia. We make the following recommendations to your inquiry.

During the period of the Inquiry, immigration detention facilities in Australia were managed for the Department by Australasian Correctional Management, although the Department maintains an official presence at each immigration detention facility.

As part of its Inquiry into Children in Immigration Detention the Commission has compiled eight Background Papers to assist organisations and individuals wishing to make submissions to the Inquiry.
